Wren T, et al. (2010) Effect of High-frequency, Low-magnitude Vibration on Bone and Muscle in Children With Cerebral Palsy, Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, 30(7), 732-738.
Cerebral palsy is the name for a group of lifelong conditions marked by impaired movement and coordination.
Children with cerebral palsy often show low bone mass and are therefore at increased risk of fracture. This study showed a significant increase in cortical bone mass and strength with just six months of Low-intensity Vibration therapy, which could translate to a decreased risk of fracture.

Earlier this year we had the delight of meeting seven year old Joe, who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
Joe’s dad got in touch with us after having researched ways to support Joe with his condition.
Joe currently is able to support his own body weight, but requires a wheelchair for long distances.
We provided Joe with a Marodyne LiV device, set up specifically for him. We hope that Low-intensity Vibration therapy will allow Joe to strengthen his bones and maintain his mobility for longer.
It was wonderful being able to meet Joe and his family. As you can see he was over the moon with his Marodyne LiV device!
Bianchi M, et al. (2022). Low Intensity Vibration Protects the Weight Bearing Skeleton and Suppresses Fracture Incidence in Boys With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy: A Prospective, Randomized, Double Blind, Placebo Controlled Clinical Trial, JBMR Plus, 6(11).
DMD is a genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle degeneration and weakness over time. Symptom onset occurs in early childhood, and it primarily affects boys. There is currently no cure for DMD, but treatment can help to manage many of the symptoms.
In this study, Low-intensity Vibration therapy with the Marodyne LiV was shown to protect the skeletal health of boys with DMD, to reduce incidence of fractures.

Lam, T.P., Ng, B.K.W., Cheung, L.W.H. et al. (2013). Effect of whole body vibration (WBV) therapy on bone density and bone quality in osteopenic girls with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: a randomized, controlled trial. Osteoporos Int 24, 1623–1636.
Scoliosis is characterised by a spine that twists and curves to the side. In around 80% of cases, the cause of scoliosis is unknown; this is called idiopathic scoliosis.
This study into girls with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis found that 12 months of Low-intensity Vibration therapy caused a significant increase to bone mineral density in the femoral neck and lumbar spine.

Mogil R, et al. (2016) Effect of Low-Magnitude, High-Frequency Mechanical Stimulation on BMD Among Young Childhood Cancer Survivors: A Randomised Clinical Trial, JABA Oncology, 2(7), 908-914.
Children with cancer are at increased risk of developing low bone density before or after diagnosis.
This study of cancer survivors ages 7 to 17 found that mechanical stimulation increased both bone density and the concentration of factors circulating in the blood associated with healthy bone growth.

Ward K, Alsop C, Caulton J, Rubin C, Adams J & Mughal Z (2004). Low Magnitude Mechanical Loading Is Osteogenic in Children With Disabling Conditions, Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, 19(3) 360-369
In this 6 month study of children with disabling conditions that impaired their ability to walk, Low-intensity Vibration therapy increased trabecular bone quality by 18%.
